Navigating the Unspoken Things

Writer's picture: Allison R. BethuneAllison R. Bethune

Recently I've had some pretty stark conversations with my children on topics I did not discuss with my parents. Co-habitation, single-parenting, marriage, homosexuality, mental health awareness, love, loss, finances, you name it. To be honest, I never thought in a million years I would have to broach these subjects with my children — some items I was prepared for and others not so much.

How do you respond? What do you do when your child states they are moving in with their significant other? Do continue to shell out money because of habitually piss poor financial management? Can you really heal their broken heart? What if believe your child needs a mental health intervention and they don't? Could you handle your child "coming out"?

Each Wednesday I will address one the questions above in a series entitled Wednesday Wisdom. My responses will shock, surprise, and encourage you. Together we will navigate the unspoken things! I want to hear your thoughts about each subject as there is strength in numbers. Remember, you are not alone in your journey through The Other Side of Adorable.

Hard road to travel but must be travelled. We pray our children will grown up and be wise in their decisions, but sometimes they venture in their own direction and need that listening ear and advise to maneuver and navigate through this thing called "life". We need to always keep the door open so that we can at least be consulted if/when need be.
